Emotion Become Form: Reviewing the Allen Memorial Art Museum’s Fon Bocio
Art History major Madi Goetzke (OC ‘21) presents a talk analyzing the materials, history, and theory of the Allen's "Fon Bocio." The wooden figure, likely from Benin or Togo, is layered with strikingly modern and spiritually symbolic elements including a wooden tool, metal cord, and padlocks. Shrouded in layers of cultural secrecy and a complicated provenance, the figure perplexes while also challenging widespread ideas of fetishism in West African objects.

This free event will be followed by a Q&A session moderated by Elizabeth Yearsley (OC ‘20). Contact the Education Department at 440-775-8671 with any questions.
